Going Green: The Ever Growing Trend of Eco-Friendly Events

Coming off of Climate Week NYC (September 24 - 30, 2019) - an annual event and summit that has taken place alongside the United Nations General Assembly since 2009 - we are looking at a topic that's been on the minds of attendees and event planners alike for some time now. While sustainable event management is not a new concept, there are always new ideas emerging to help make events more eco-friendly.

Following the metal straw trend, many venues and catering partners have begun substituting single-use plastic for biodegradable cutlery and plates. The rise of technology has produced a wealth of digital tools that is making paperless events possible -- from virtual invitations and promotion to e-tickets and online registration to even using tablets on-site for menu displays.

One of our favorite emerging trends is urban agriculture, which allows for a truly sustainable farm-to-table culinary experience (something that used to be hard to find in a metropolis like NYC). Brooklyn Grange is currently the leading rooftop farming business in the US, operating the world's largest rooftop soil farms! On the other side of the river, the Javits Center also boasts a green roof which functions as a sanctuary for local wildlife while also helping to reduce energy consumption throughout the convention center.
